Favorite Photography Locations in Houston

Houston is filled with plenty of green spaces, studios, cityscapes, murals, and installments. The city has some great backdrops for you to take personal and professional photos, or even just to be inspired! In this post, I will share a few of my favorite spots to take pictures in Houston and why I love them.

Buffalo Bayou Park

Our first stop is Buffalo Bayou Park. This location is 160 acres of green space over two miles long near Downtown Houston. This is arguably the most versatile shoot location in Houston and I like this location for that reason exactly. The park has picnic areas, hiking trails, eye-catching bridges, and interesting sculptures to shoot in and around. One of my favorite parts about the park is the view of the Houston skyline! Buffalo Bayou has great open space and great space covered by trees. This is a plus because if it’s a hot day you can find spots that are well-shaded without having to move to an entirely different location.

McGovern Centennial Gardens

McGovern Centennial Gardens is another favorite spot located near Houston’s museum district. This 15-acre space is home to over 50 species of plants and trees. This is a great spot to host events or take portraits. The park features two fountains one at the entrance and another running down the iconic hill. This well-manicured greenery space is perfect for getting nature-filled photos and golden hour shots. I like this location a lot because you can walk the enclosure and have a variety of perspectives. The garden also has nice canopy coverage in some areas to diffuse light.

Katy Heritage Society Park

This last one is not in true Houston but in a suburb on the outskirts. Katy Heritage Society is the oldest independent nonprofit organization Katy focused on preserving and displaying historical landmarks. This park contains historical houses each with some unique features making it a great place to shoot. There is also a gazebo and a mural in this park showcasing some iconic things in Katy. All in all, it’s an excellent spot for portraits. The front porches on the houses provide good shade if shooting in broad daylight.

There are SO MANY more locations in Houston that are incredible spots to take pictures at, but I couldn’t name them all here. If you have a favorite spot not mentioned leave a comment and let me know. I’d love to check out new spots in Houston!
